The only charity that caters for the specialist needs of limb reconstruction patients

Friends

Welcome to our Friends organisation, whether you are patient, former patient, family, in the medical profession or just a well-wisher. In the following pages you will find information on how Friends help patients, what help is available from other sources and also very importantly, ways that you can get involved and support our work.

Friends aims and objectives

The name of the association is the Friends of the KCH Limb Reconstruction Trust (Friends).
All persons shall be eligible for membership of the Friends.
Membership shall be free.

The objects of the Friends are:
  • The provision of information for patients considering or undergoing limb reconstruction, their carers and families
  • The raising of funds for the KCH Limb Reconstruction Trust (the Trust)
  • The promotion of events with other bodies that support the charitable aims of the Trust
  • The initiation, organisation and carrying out of activities that are necessary, desirable or expedient for the aforementioned purposes.
All fund-raising events organised by the Friends and involving expenditure shall first be approved by one or both of the Trust co-chairmen, depending on the amount involved.

To this purpose, the fundraising trustee shall prepare a projected costing sheet for approval by one or both of the Trust co-chairmen.

All funds raised from donations and activities organised by the Friends shall be paid over to the KCH Limb Reconstruction Trust or as the Trust may direct.

The Friends shall be administered by the Clerk to the Trustees and any other such officer whom the Friends and the Trust for the time being consider necessary.

The Friends shall determine their own procedures and may in particular arrange for:
  • The formation of any sub-committee consisting if desired of one or more co-opted Friends for any particular purpose.
  • Each appointed sub-committee shall present a report and statement of accounts to each formal meeting of the KCH LRT Trustees.

We are grateful to:

Ravensbourne College of Design and Communication

Ravensbourne students
As part of the trust’s commitment to its educational objectives, we are pleased to have developed a fruitful relationship with Ravensbourne College of Design and Communication in Chislehurst, Kent, over the past two years.

Whilst in their final year studying for a BA (Hons) in Graphic Design, students developed our branding and logo, which is now used on all our marketing documents.

Students Stuart Dixey and Jack Burton, studying for the BA (Hons) in Broadcasting, filmed various aspects of the work of the Limb Reconstruction Unit, to be made into short instructional DVDs. These are intended to help with the care of patients in the community. One of the very real difficulties is that what is routine to the unit at King’s is alien to many GP practices. The DVDs will assist patient GPs and district nurses with post-discharge treatment. They will also be available on this website soon.

The relationship with Ravensbourne is continuing, giving third year students the opportunity to apply their design and broadcasting skills on a real life project.

We are also grateful to:

The Trustees for their time and commitment, and daily support to the limb reconstruction patients.

Karen Sherris for her unselfish efforts as Clerk to the Trustees and much more besides.

The Willow Tree Trust for its annual donations and the funding of our specialist physiotherapist.

David Hemingway, Adrian Heathfield, Sheila Ashworth and Laval Piarroux, a superb core of Friends.

Employment Relations Solicitors for their resources and Anne Leva for her drive and energy.

The South East Thames Circuit group meeting, chaired by consultant orthopaedic surgeon Mr Venu Kavarthapu, for its donation.

The Rev. Eric Heselwood for the loan of Downe Church for our Carols for Christmas concert

English Heritage for the use of Down House for our Christmas 2009 event.
