Karen Sherris, clerk to the trustees, Debbie Bond, limb reconstruction nurse and other supporters were up at dawn on 25 August to set up for the latest cake and brac sale at King’s College Hospital. Their efforts paid off with just over £500 raised to fund the work done by the trust.

Karen said: “As always we are very grateful to all those who baked cakes for us and who helped on the day. Homemade cakes always go first!”

It was clinic day for limb reconstruction consultant Om Lahoti, so he was able to come to the sale, as were a number of his patients, some of them pictured here.

Among them was Philip Laycock, who had only had his frame fitted three weeks before. He was able to speak to other patients about how to lessen pain around the pin sites at night, when sheets catch on them. Frames to put in the bed are available to support the sheets off the legs.

Robert Campbell is the patient pictured without a frame. It was a day of celebration for him as Debbie had removed the frame that very day. It had been on since May last year, and he had his other leg treated similarly the year before. He is very grateful for all that Om Lahoti has done for him.

The last picture is of Natasha Lawrence, also one of Om’s patients.

The raffle was well supported and the winners were Judy Maitland (ticket 026 - a sports voucher), Minu (ticket 122 - a music voucher), Andy Ridler (ticket 054 - a bottle of champagne) and Suzanne Partridge (ticket 121 - jewellery).

Karen and her band of helpers are now busy planning for the next sale which will take place on 1 December. Look out too for the Christmas raffle which will have fabulous prizes. Contact Karen on 0784 157 6084 closer to the day if you want to buy tickets.
