Trustees, staff, patients and friends raised just over £600 by rattling buckets at The Valley, Charlton Athletic's ground in Greenwich, South London on 20 November 2010.

The choice of football club was made by trust co-chairman, Tony Bertin, a lifetime supporter of Charlton Football Club. Both he and his wife Penny, also a trustee, are season ticket holders. With them were a further 14 collectors including their son James, co-chairman Sarah Phillips, Debbie Bond, Colin Biggs and his grandchildren Matthew (11) and Charlie (10) Carr, Nigel Douglas, Paul Flintoff and his daughter Freddie, Adrian Heathfield, Renuka Malhotra, Mark Phillips, Doreen Rowlay and clerk to the trustees Karen Sherris.

These are Matthew's and Charlie's match reports:
"I enjoyed my time helping the charity and I thought the reason for collecting was going to a great cause. The people I was working with were extremely nice and in the end we got the right result."

"I had a great time at Charlton and it was great to collect for such a good cause and it was a bonus to collect at the Valley. We collected lots of money and beat Yeovil 3 - 2."

Tony underwent limb reconstruction at King's from 2000 to 2002, as a result of an original football-related injury. "The Limb Reconstruction Unit treats young people with serious sporting injuries, returning soldiers from Afghanistan and victims of motoring accidents," said Tony. "Anyone playing football at a professional or amateur level is at risk of injury and becoming a patient of this or a similar unit."

All enjoyed the day, the opportunity for patients to meet trustees and the much needed refreshments served in the football club's bar.

A director of Charlton, Derek Ufton, also lent his support. He is a neighbour of Tony's in Kent, was a centre half for Charlton in the 50s, a wicket keeper for Kent County Cricket Club and probably one of the last professional sportsmen to play football in the winter and cricket in the summer.

The icing on the cake was that Charlton won their match against Yeovil, by three goals to two.
