Congratulations to Trustee and consultant orthopaedic surgeon Mark Phillips who completed the gruelling stage for amateur cyclists in this year's Tour de France - 109 km in the high Alps. L'Etape du Jour, as the event is called, involved climbing 1,566m up the Col du Télégraphe, then 2,556m to reach the top of Col du Galibier, to reach Alpe d'Huez at 1,850m.
Mark said: "The Etape this year was the best day you could possibly have on a bike. We had a great day and arrived with the living rather than the dead and dying this year. I'm sure the 100km trip on 2 July (the fun bike ride to Bekesbourne in Kent organised by Tony and Penny Bertin) helped!"
Mark completed the race in 7h 01min 54sec, and came a very creditable 4,631 out of a total 6,443 participants.
