Christmas event raised over £2,000

A private visit of Charles Darwin’s home, Down House, and a Carols for Christmas concert has raised more than £2,000 for our charity.

The event on Saturday 12 December 2009 was organised by KCH LRT Clerk to the Trustees, Karen Sherris, and Friends, and was very well supported by trustees, former and current patients, supporters and well-wishers. Guests of honour were the Mayor of Bromley, Cllr Douglas Auld, and his wife.

KCH LRT is grateful to English Heritage for the use of Down House and to the Rev. Eric Heselwood, vicar of Downe Church, for the use of his beautiful church for the concert. He is himself a former patient of King’s College Hospital.

The audience enjoyed an excellent programme of traditional and less well-known Christmas music, beautifully performed by the City Chamber Choir under conductor Stephen Jones. A special treat was to have composer Paul Martyn-West in the audience for the performance of his choral piece O My Deir Hert. A big thank you to trustee Joan Hester, an alto in the choir, for making this concert possible.
Readings were by former and current Limb Reconstruction Unit patients including Tony Bertin, a founder trustee and co-chairman of the trust.
The evening was rounded off with mince pies and mulled wine served in Downe Church Hall. The money raised will be used towards achieving some of the trust’s aims. A list of future events can be seen in our Calendar
